Hello!

I am going to purchase a used Plinius 9200. I would apreciate your honest advice on the Speakers to partner with this amplifier.

I was thinking in Monitor Audio GX300 ou B&W 804S.

What would be the best match for the plinius? I´m afraid that the Monitor Audio GX300 sound a little bright with the Plinius. I already have a MA RS1 coupled with a Rotel RA 05 and sometimes when I´m hearing some rock I find the sound quite bright...

Thank you very much for your advice.

Carlos Correia.

Hi Carlos

I think that you also need to look at Proac's D18's, D28 and ATC's SCM40 monitors as i've found these speakers to work well with Plinius amplification.

Btw, your existing amplifier is?

What source component/s and cabling do you use?

What genre of music do you generally listen to?

I would start with Spendor SP100R2, Harbeth Super HL5 and Harbeth Monitor 40.1. They all sound sweet and shall be a better partner to Plinius 9200 rather than B&W or Monitor Audio. Anyway, the GX300 is smoother and sweeter than MA RS and GS Series.

I would not say BW is not the way to go it's more a mather of taste...

But I tested tha MA gx 300 an I found theme sounding to bright... Actualy I don't want to rule out all the MA models but all the MA speaker I listened to where souning to bright for me, So I'm affraid you will to

Personaly I only deloed the proarc D18 wich I loved wher warm, detailed, colofull bass without being to boomy as BW's can be sometime an at no moment I found them sounding bright. So I guess the D28 will be even better, I hope to demo the D28 & D40 sometime soon But for now I can't tell

I really liked the 804's to when they wher matched with an M6i It losed all the havyness BW can suffer from... It became light an laid back with a great bass but thanks to the power it was always contrled an tune full.

So if the amp have enough power reserve it should be a good match.

Ex I found the 803's always sounding a bit unhandy like it was alway trieng to catch her breath. But when I had the opportiunity the connect theme to the AMS 35i it was like the suddenly start running the became agile detailed an airy with a superb bass no bright sounding high....

So my advice if it's possible try a few matches as I personaly somethimes didn't like to much presentation of some speakers but than connected to an other amp it became.....

Depending on tastes, I ve been running Spendor A6s with the Plinius 9200 for about 6 months. Its is definitely not bright!

I owned cyrus gear for 6 years and while I think I prefer the detail and resolution of cyrus amps/ atc speakers, the spendor/ plinius combo is very musical.

Inicidentally, how much is the Plinius 9200 costing? I m thinking of swapping mine for Cyrus Mono x 200s or 300s

Hi chasefrench

If you're thinking of alternative amplification then I'll highly recommend that you also consider the excellent Plinius Hiato  or SA-103  & SB-301  power amplifiers. All three will offer significant improvement in the quality of power and performance over the already impressive 9200.
