Helo Everyone

I own the following setup Onkyo TX-SR875 + sorround 5.1 MT-30 + Classe CA-2200 + B&W 802D (Front) and play from a professional computer soundboard as a source.

Can anyone help me with an advice on how to set-up the speakers settings section of my receiver so i can get the best performance?

the menu looks like this:

Speakers setup:

speakers settings: impedance 4/6ohm?

Speakers config: Front (802D): 60hz, 80hz, 100hz ->200hz ?

center, sorround, back (MT-30): 60hz, 80hz, 100hz ->200hz ?

subwoofer(PV1) - 60hz, 80hz ...

i'm a 40% movies and 60% music listener

Thanks for your support and hope I am not asking too much...

Simply use the supplied microphone and this will be calibrated automatically by your receiver, without you having to do anything manually (except to move the microphone!).

Thanks for the advice. I already did it and i didn't like how it sounded so i made my own changes and i noticed that it got better so, unfortunately, it is not the best solution. it also modified the eq settings and i was not very pleased with them neither... it made my speakers sound a little "empty".

i am a little confused on how to set those fqz... i read all the sections of the manual and it helped but there is nothing like a final forum advice from an experienced owner...

Check the 'late night mode' (the button which is 2nd from the right at the very bottom of the remote) is turned OFF. If left on AUTO or ON it makes the sound a lot more muddled.

This was a recent discovery of mine (default is AUTO). Big improvement.

it says "not available" however i don't think this the basic solution...

Where did you place the microphone for the auto calibration? I read elsewhere a post by an Audyssey tech that the best position for the mic is a couple of times in the primary position, then in a couple of secondary positions and finally positions about 3 ft in front of each of the positions you have just done. It has worked well for me.

Hey, I was chilling out watching a bit of telly!

I have a full size speaker set up so my settings could be different to what works for tudorvok.
However lets give it a try.

1st of all I would forget about using the Mike.
Go into speaker settings and set the impedance of the speakers to 6ohm.
Next on config set them all to THX (80hz)

Set the sub frequency so it overlaps by 20hx the speakers.

Then go and set the levels by ear using 5db as the base line sat in your usual position. (this can be fined tuned/balanced/tweaked again when you have got things 95% there)

Put on some reference music that really moves you, and first of all set the subs bass levels to naturally balance.

Now listen and fine tune the levels again. I play music on PL2 as that gives me the best open sound stage.

When you are happy with the balance lets take a look at getting the balance on the frequency range. Go into the equaliser settings starting with the Fronts, then the Centre adjust to the room to your primary listing area.

As your system beds in you will spend months fine tuning as the sound gets richer and more full bodied.

Once you get used to understanding the menu settings you will find it easier to make fine adjustments.

Hope this helps.

Thanks alot for trying to help. Well I tested it that way too but it doesn't sound better than the manual settings. Perhaps if I could compare them to someone else's setting I could get tot a final decision... so below you can see how my setup looks like. I set them manually but i still have the impression that they are not the most adequate settings for my speakers (and my ears maybe). the sound doesn't seem to be stable. the bass volume sometimes sounds higher than the treble, other times, the treble sounds higher and the bass lower...

impedance is set to 4ohms

front speakers (802D - driven through Classe CA-2200) - 60hz

center, sides - 60hz

rear - 80 (thz)

sub - 60hz

... are they supposed to be set like this?

maybe this is a funny question but since i am a newbie i really don't know... may i damage my speakers in any way if i am abusing these settings?

i tested my subwoofer (youtube subwoofer tests) and after approx 3 minutes it started to smell like a burned out tire...

advice really appreciated

Thanks alot for the very detailed answer, Trevor.

my previous reply (for voodo) was just a delay.
