I've ripped all my CDs in Apple Lossless and stream them through Airport Express to my hi fi amp. I know the PS3 will not play Apple Lossless so I've converted a few songs to 320kps mp3s and 160kps (just to see if I can tell the difference). When I go to music on the PS3 I can see Windows Media Player 11. I select it and I can then see the 320kps songs but not the 160 ones. When I click on the songs a message pops up saying it cant access the file and it might have been deleted. I can play podcasts ok though.

Is this some sort of protection issue? If so, is there a way around it?

harveymt --- I've no problem in playing any size/kps mp3 from Windows Media Player on my pc to the ps3. BUT, I prefer to use ps3 media server as it appears to be able to stream almost anything to the ps3, I've just ripped a track off a cd into apple lossless and it played with no problem using the ps3 media server.

tj27 ----- Probably a silly question, are you accessing your music files through the correct icon on the ps3? (music) .

thanks for the reply, but yes, i have tried putting music in all folders at the same time & it just does not access anyof them.

It can see the names of the tune, but when you click on the name of the tune it comes up blank - am i missing something here!?

Do i need to go to the music player on the PS3 to get them to play?

Tj27 ----- The only time that I have any problems playing music files on the PS3 is when I have selected to play a FLAC music file in Windows Media Player, the message shows - Unsupported Data. The PS3 Media Server appears to play almost anything. ?
What type of music file are you trying to play??
First of all can you play the music files mp3/flac on your computer? If so, on PS3 Media Server have you enabled the folders that the music files are stored on = on the Navigations/Share Folders Tab - Add the folders onto the Shared Folders section at the bottom of the page. Then click onto Restart HTPP server, or close down and restart the ps3 media server.
Have you set your amp to "see" your PS3? , the PS3 is also set-up for your sound connections to your amp?
On your TV / PS3 screen open the PS3 Media Server icon (green triangle) that is above/below the music icon. You should now see the folder that your music files are in, click through the folders to the music file that you want to play and select it.

I think wen u put songs on the PS3 its the same as the PSP,If u add the hole file (eg artist, album file) it will not access the music as it only seems to look in side 1 file.

Wen putting music files on just put the album file on & all should be fine

hope that helps

Paul
