Hi,

Is there a big difference between those screens? I know KRP500
A/M have separate media box and I think
is thinner, but if I am buying PDP LX5090 without stand, aren’t they identical
inside (electronics, quality, picture etc.) Is it big jump in quality if any
for extra £500 or so?

Thanks in advance for help.

As mentioned elsewhere, we've just had the KRP in, so will be testing it next week, including up against the 5090. Results online ASAP after that....

I'm the proud owner of a KRP 500M. Firstly, let me start by saying that the picture quality is astonishing. I upgraded from a Pioneer 428XD which is a well respected screen, but the difference in terms of picture quality, detail, motion, black levels and contrast is unbelievable. The M models have no tuners at all so I would only recommend if the rest of your set up is geared towards this. The A models has an external box. Mine is set up with Sky HD set to output at 1080i, upscaled by an Onkyo 875 to 1080p. With the screen set to 'Pure' Mode, 'dot by dot' on and film mode set to standard (ie don't deinterlace) the results are simply staggering. Watching football (Drive Mode 2) on Sky HD, the motion tracks perfectly and you get an amazing sense of depth. Sky HD films (Drive Mode 1) again are staggering. Black levels are awesome and motion is smooth. Even SD content is good (although I don't watch much of this). Watching the electric proms on BBC HD was amazing.

Connected to a Denon 2500BT with blu-ray (pure cinema advanced) the game moves on even further. I don't know enough superlatives to really do this justice. Watching Wolf Creek on blu-ray really brings the screen to life, there are some great scenes across the Australian outback and some night scenes that really demonstrate the contrast ratio. Can't wait to watch Iron Man!!!

From what I've been told the KRP screens have moved on in terms of PQ from the LX's, more so than Pioneer initially expected. I assume an absence of tuners helps, also the Pure Mode setting that according to one review I have read is the closest to D65 that any screen has ever been out of the box and also turns off almost all of the processing, and dot by dot that turns off all of the scaling. I can't recommend this screen enough. Just make sure you shop around. I paid £2300 for mine rather than the list price of £2700.

Thank you so much for all the comments. Where did you buy yours? Price sounds amazing. Did you buy on-line?

Ginder - the link doesn't work....

The 5090 and the 500a are the same panel. The 500a is much slimmer and looks so much better on the wall. The GUI is also greatly improved on the 500a. Both are premium sets and the 500a has the edge over the LX5090 but PQ wise they are the same.

I think you will find that there are differences between the 5090 and 500A in terms pf picture quality, plus the 500A has pure mode which if used with colour space 2 gets it pretty accurate out of the box. The 5090 needs some work by an suitably qualified ISF calibrator to get it close to the 500A picture in pure mode.

Hi MV, In you reply post stating that you'd purchased the Pioneer display for £2300 instead of the list price (£2700), which model were you referring to? From the price stated I assume you mean the PDP-LX5090 and not the KRP-500A as this seems to be going for between £2699 and £3000 on internet sites?

Thanks,

He did state he has the 500 m not 500 a so he has the model without the seperate media box hence the differance in price.

Ah, must have missed that in the original post. However, i would still be interested in knowing where he purchased his unit from as this is still a good price and well below the RRP of £2700?
