Have recently bought a panasonic px70 42". I have just upgraded to v+ . I'm not happy with the skin tones they seem blotchy or lack definition. Now i thought v+ and sky+ upscale sd picture to 720 or have i been misled? I have set tv to hdmi and the set top box too. Only had tv since 6/12/07 so will the picture improve after its been used more? .I have tv,receiver, set top box and dvd in one 4 socket extension lead, could this cause poorer picture quality? . Ive adjusted picture settings on tv after running THX optimizer but still not happy. Any ideas??

All I can say is that I bought this same panel a couple of weeks ago and no matter what I connect to it..... the picture is fantastic !

Maybe your settings are wrong ?

I have the same model, bought about 3 months ago and I would say the picture improves as time goes by. However, I have a Thomson DTR PVR connected with the Top Up Tv service ( I think it is rubbish but my 7 year old disagrees) and Setanta Sports where the picture is dreadful with the latter - shimmering green pitch with poor definition and sharpness to the players which is worse with motion. I had an aerial engineer check everything and he said no problem with the aerial. I then contacted Top up tv and they suggested try the Thomson connected to another tv. I did this with 2 other (non plasma) screens and it worked fine - no degredation of picture.I then contacted Panasonic to see if my settings or connections were wrong or if there simply was a conflict somewhere but they were as much use as a chocolate fireguard, saying that whilst they" believed the two were compatable, no testing had been carried out" and to speak to Top Up Tv again! I am now awaiting delivery a new scart lead (Ixos 6111 075) to try this. Hand on heart Idont think this is the problem , but when you are fobbed off with so called customer care people then you have to try something yourself

Hi i have the very same set with a qed hdmi-p cable and i use the vigin V+ box and the picture quality and in particular the skin tones are amazing and indeed the V+ does upscale and BBC and most channels look close to HD with as per reviews skin tones are this sets strong point.

Make sure in V+ settings are TV display format- HDMI HI Def
V+ Hi Def Output set to 720 wide that is on clicking panny remote 720p
now if thats no good make sure you are in Cinema Mode and i suggest Contrast and mid point, Brightness 1 click to right, colour 1 or 2 click to right and sharpness never more than centre point.

If still have funny skin tones you might have cheap HDMI cable or faulty set as i must say the V+ picture on SD is the only reason im staying with Virgin at the mo

I understand what you say about ''setanta sports''...... thing is they are NOT Sky and as such Setants use far inferior cameras and this is why on most sets the picture is poor.

Will persevere to get as good a picture as possible with Setanta. Trying the new Ixos lead tonight. Funny thing though is that I watched a live game the other night with the usual poor quality yet caught the goals later on the ITV News and the footage " Courtesy of Setanta" was ok through the Thomson box. Strange but true.

I must say, I bought the 42 inch Panasonic PX70 a few weeks ago on recommendation from What HiFI best buys, however, while the TV is great in many ways, I feel it should be made clear that there is a very annoying fault, which you should carefully consider before parting with your cash.

The fault is that when the camera on HD broadcast pans sideways, the screen flickers, i.e. the frame rate slows down to about 15 FPS or less!. So you get a flashing Juttery display which is so annoying on the eyes.

I recently went to a large Hughes shop nearby and saw lots of plasmas side by side, and sure enough all the Pansonics did the same. So did the Sony and LG's, however, the Samsung did not!

So I suggest that before buying, you watch the TV on a High Definition signal, such as BBC HD and wait until the camera pans and see what I mean, its very annoying! I am surprised that the What Hi Fi guys didnt pick this one up sooner

Hi,

I bought one not long ago and I can say it's been perfect since installation. There was a case of 'image retention' which scared me but I was a plasma virgin and after seeking advice from here, all was well.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.
