1. Graham Slee Refelx V

2. Heed Audio Quasar MM/MC Phonostage

3. Sonneteer Sedley

4. Croft Acoustics - Croft RIAA Phono Preamp

5. Advid Pellar

Anyone of those should beat the onboard phono stage in the Sugden. I don't think anyone here has had the chance to compare separate phono preamps to the one in the Sugden.

Best to just read the reviews, pick the sound quality characteristics that you like, decide if that will match up with the rest of your system, and then take a chance and buy one. Any dealers in your area that can loan you one for a day or two?

i think you mean Graham Slee Reflex M. You could mean Graham Slee Era Gold V, but not Graham Slee Reflex V. Graham Slee phono amps are available for a two week home loan through his forum owners' club, if you can't get hold of one from a local outlet.

Might be worth hearing a better cartridge before deciding the preamp needs improving. I'd always start with a better tt, arm and cartridge. What are yours?

The OP has already posted that his cartridge is a Nagaoka MP500.

I have the REGA FONO MKII but it is not used because the sound quality of my Sugden build-in phono stage is better. Therefore, for surely upgrading, I have to choose a phono stage product which is much better than REGA FONO MKII.

I read that too, but I don't consider it more than refined and pleasant Definitely not need a v expensive preamp. I'd keep that for a serious MC.
