Phono pre-amp recommendation please?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy my boyfriend a phono pre-amp for his Gerrard 401 turnable for Christmas.

We currently has a Cyrus hi-fi but it seems like the Cyrus Phono X is impossible to track down.

Does anyone have any recommendations for pre-amps in the £100 - £300 price range - Rega, Pro ject and Creek have all been suggested at the moment. Not sure if the turnable is MM or MC unfortunately.

Any help would be really appreciated - I'm a bit of a novice about these things

It's important to know whether the cartridge is MM or MC, but I would encourage you to check out the Graham Slee offerings . Gram Amp 2 SE (mm) or Fanfare (mc) would fit the budget and through the forum you can arrange a two week home loan without obligation.

Assuming you have not bought it yet, might I suggest the Thorens as it has both MM and MC capability.
