I seem to remember talk that the lenth of your leads has an effect on the quality of the sound that they produce...Short leads good, long leads bad.

If this is the case... is there any stockests that sell really short phono leads, somthiing like 8 inches or so. A meter seems like quite alot to simply connect a CD to an Amp that are sitting on top of each other.

Mark Grant will make custom length cables for you. He's done them for me in the past.

There was a thread on this a few months ago - seem to remember the physicists amongst the membership talking about the speed of light etc which basically meant that lengths didn't make a difference. Ears are the believing though!

Yes but there is the small matter of clutter and that really does matter. It is unsightly. Most hifi is ugly enough already and visible leads just make it worse.

Well I for one am not gonna go into the whole cable debate again, but a simple rule of thumb is that cables carrying analogue line-out signals have a great deal of effect on the signal and ideally should be as short as possible with sturdy connections (I make my own and always use Nutrik connectors).

If it's digital cables then as long as they are reasonably well made then the data going in one end will arrive at the other end bit for bit.

If you're talking fibre optic connections, broadcasters often send the signal over several kilometres (albeit with repeater circuits) without any degredation whatsoever.
Nothing to worry about there then, unless you happen to live in Windsor Castle . . . .!
