Just a quick note i have read elswhere that panasonic are to extend their warrenties to 5 years, starting on May the 1st .

A local Dealer mentioned that he would be able to get a 5 year warrenty from May

Good news for us and local dealers.

Is there a Credit Crunch?................Yes there is!

Will people now fall into Negative Equity................Yes they will!

Is it really now difficult to borrow money for a mortgage or a loan? Yes it is!

Is there such a thing as a Free 5 Year Warranty......................NO THERE ISN'T!

Wake up people.....you pay for the 5 year warranty in the price of the TV and when the TV has just come on the market you particularly pay a hefty premium for that warranty to begin with

What few people seem to know is under the sale of goods act 1982 (amended 2002) you have upto 6 years (5yrs in Scotland) to claim against a product depending on what the product is and how much you paid for it, for example if you purchased a Panasonic lcd for £700 you would expect to get at least 4 - 5yrs trouble free use from it and that would be backed up by the sale of goods act regardless of whatever warranty came with the product, 1yr, 5yrs or none you are covered by the sale of goods act so a free five year warranty is pointless.

A claim can be pursued though the courts for up to six years providing it can be shown that the problem was due to the work not being carried out properly or the goods or materials used not being of satisfactory quality.

for more info look at www.direct.gov.co.uk/

We will see. We know what the price of the Panasonic's are now, we can see if they go up in price when the 5 year guarantee comes into force. I think that the credit crunch will make it very difficult for the dealers to put up the price now, because people are going to stop spending. If you have the money, it will be a great time to do a deal.

As we were saying the other day in the office - you'd never guess it from the number of people on these forums either having just bought a big flatscreen TV or itching to buy one.

If you go to John Lewis and get a price match, you will get a FREE 5 year warranty. with regards to the sale of goods act, although most manufacturers offer a 1 year standard warranty, if you are spending a large amount of money on a product, it can be deemed that it is reasonable for the buyer to assume that the product will remain fit for purpose for a considerable amount of time past the warranty period. For example, if you buy a laptop for £1000 and it dies a month after the end of a 12 month warranty, you should expect to get a replacement if it is not repairable. I saw a simlar example for a £500 computer on BBC Watchdog.... i think the sore in question was Currys

Almost, it was its equally dysfunctional cousin, PC World. In that case the laptop was refused a repair because the branch claimed the laptop had suffered from water damage despite the owners denying it had ever been near water.

In the end PC World gavein but only after the programme was aired.

Amazing how customer service improves dramatically in these cases isn't it?!

Yes, amazing isn't it!

I feel quite sorry for some of the people who work in these places because they are told by the management not to give refunds, but when some one goes above their head, the management backs down straight away. It would annoy the hell out of me, because it shows the management has no trust in it's staff to make a judgement, and it shows the hypocrisy of the management.
