INITIALLY I would be using the TV quite heavily with SD and would like to know how the quality is? I understand the Kuro's are in a different league on this and have read some less than positive things about the V10 performance but would like honest opinions. Maybe in terms of comparison to a good LCD model.. the 42" w550 for example?

Understand the blacks etc. on HD viewing rival the Pioneers and beat it in some people's opinion, but how about gaming performance and sports viewing.

Finally, in terms of SD/HD viewing, from around 10-12 feet, do you still see a good picture? Would it be any different from the G10 at this further distance?

I understand some are going to think why buy such a model for SD but this would only be a stopgap (granted it may be a fairly long one if my current spending trend continues) but I want to consider everything possible before I decide what to buy - all I know at the moment is that for my room 42" is the biggest I want to go - I imagine that might change in the future too!

1. I'm afraid I can't offer a worthwhile comparison to an LCD. I've only viewed these in JL and Currys and the signal was split between several tvs. I thought SD tv looked shocking on all of the tvs LCD/ Plasmas (this includes the Pioneer 5090). At home with a proper connection, all I can comment on is my experience with the V10. When I first got the tv I was very impressed with the sd picture when watching Risky Business (so quite an old film). I was impressed with King Kong as well. This was when using the tv's internal tuner. Others no doubt will disagree, but I noticed a deterioration in PQ when connected via scart to a virgin box (not HD). However, some transmissions are better than others eg Five USA is usually very good, but generally I'm not that impressed and I think the in-built tuner is better. I haven't got Sky, so I can't comment on that.

2. The blacks are very good. In my opinion, Mad Men (DVD - TV show) shows good contrast between deep blacks and pure whites in the main menu. Whether or not it's comparable to the Pioneer, most people would probably say not, and having seen both side by side in Sevenoaks, I'd have to agree. Gaming (360) is excellent. No input lag as you might expect, sharp picture etc (The TV does not accept 1080p via component and I don't have an HDMI-equipped 360, so I'm only using 1080i). The little sport I have watched has been decent, but not fantastic. I've seen the tv with HD sport and that does look very good and motion is handled well.

3. I watch all sources from approximately 9ft, and I am extremely pleased with the dvd, blu ray and 360 performance at this distance. Check out the What Hi Fi review as they say you can get better blu ray performance for the money. In my humble opinion though, blu ray performance is excellent. I'm not sure about this, but I think the G10 and V10 are very similar if not identical in terms of picture except for the fact that the V10 has THX mode which is good for films. When browsing, I couldn't see much difference between them.

Use my TX-P42V10 with Sky+HD, Blu-ray and Wii via my Onkyo 606.

I have not noticed anything 'nasty' with the picture as I am sure I would if it was there.
I use the THX picture mode for blu-ray and HD broadcasts and this is not available on the G10.

Good blacks, no input lag, fast moving sport spot on.

IMHO The Intelligent Frame Creation pro is a complete waste of time so its turned off all the time for me.

I have not used the Freesat tuner.

Very happy with Picture quality, no issues whatsoever.
