panasonic freesat box

Hi All,
just got off the phone to Panasonic and they told me that there are no plans for any set top freesat boxes or freesat pvr`s
any one know if this is right because the guy on the phone was pretty insistant that it was not happening and i`ve been hanging on waiting for them to bring one out

Why would Panasonic want to launch a Freesat box when they have just launched new TVs with Freesat in?

They would be shooting themselves in the foot

There are no plans for Freesat boxes from Panasonic - well certainly none this side of Christmas - but I'd wager you'll see a Panasonic Blu-ray/DVD/HDD recorder with a Freesat tuner in the UK at some stage, as Pana has just announced a Blu-ray recorder for the French HDTV market....

Appreciate the response. I`m sure we will see a big push from freesat and some new hardware leading up to Christmas. After all, they need to do something soon surely??

Is there any way to record from one of these built in decoders? If not, that's a bit of a pain if you've bought one of those new Panasonics plasmas with the built in FreeSat isn't it?

Yes, it's a total pain! Until Freesat PVRs come along (est October/November), there's no recording option for any Freesat user - whether set-top box or Panasonic TV buyer.

You can't record from the set top boxes either?

Crikey! Looks like I've found myself in need of a new tv at possibly the least convenient moment ever! Nuts!

Why can't you just use one of the scart connections to connect the freesat box to a normal DVD/HDD recorder? I do this with my skybox, connecting it to my panasonic HDD/DVD recorder via Scart, and then I record sky by simply setting the channel to AV2 on the recorder.
