Hello

I am looking to buy a blu ray player to replace my PS3 which will be relegated to the bedroom.

Thinking of getting a Panasonic DMP BD35 or the lastest DMP BD60. I have found the 35 online for £170 the cheapest I can find the 60 is £250. Is the later model worth the extra.

Probably not.... I haven't seen a review of the newer model but unless it loads discs quicker, I would go with the older one for less £ and spend the rest on discs.

Save your money and go with the Pana BD35. It is a truly superb blu-ray player - period. The review of the BD60 is in the latest issue of the mag and if you were to compare both reviews, you will note that the BD35 is infact the superior player - my opinion at least.

While the review of the BD35 is glowing, the review of the BD60 only appears to be complimentary.

I agree. I own the BD55 and the picture quality between the BD35 and 55 is virtually the same.

Someone told me that the fan on the BD35 is noisy. Is this true?

Scotsgirl - it's quieter than a church mouse and even a cemetery! ZERO sound.

Thanks both!

The person who said the fan made a noise obviously needs his ears syringed!lol

I've just got hold of a Pioneer BD51FD Blu-Ray player (mid-range) and after keeping it for the last couple of days - you know what?

I'm keeping the BD35 (budget) coz it is really, really good, even against a higher priced blu-ray player like the Pioneer!! The only upgrade I would ever consider would be for a BD55, and nothing else.

The Pioneer is heading for E-Bay

I did the same. Ordered a Pioneer BD51FD at a great price from Richer Sounds in Belfast and set it up. The Blu-ray picture and sound was phenomenal. I then tried it for upscaling standard DVD's and it was dreadful, simply the worst picture I had seen from an upscaling player. Then (as I wanted an all-round player), I set it up as a cd player and it was worse than my 20 year old Phillips cd player. So, off the Pioneer went back and exchanged for a Panasonic BD35 and have to say that although the blu-ray picture is clearly not as good (detailed or vibrant) and neither is the sound as the Pioneer, it is a better all round player and a vastly superior DVD upscaler. For the price of the Pioneer, I got the Panasonic and a significant contribution to a Marantz CD6002 which is simply stunning (and on sale in Richer Sounds at an exceptional price). Happy days!

As a final note, I must say that Richer Sounds in Belfast were absolutely phenomenal and the best customer service I've ever had! Well done lads, you were amazing to deal with!

I have the 35 and its pretty damn good. You would need to spend quite a bit more to get a better all rounder that would be worth the upgrade.

Rightly pointed out - the BD35 really is an excellent blu-ray player for the money, a no brainer really

The place I was going to get the BD35 said it has been discontinued and has offered to give me a special deal on the BD60 when purchased with a Panasonic Plasma.

I haven't got the price yet but wondered whether you would recommend I stick with the BD35 and get it elsewhere?

There are some very good deals on E-Bay. A 3 month unit in pristine condition went for £140.00 yesterday.

Is that for the BD35?

I've had a closer look at these DVD Players and they seem a bit complicate do set up?
I didn't know you had picture and sound options?

Although i have a ps3 which quite happy with, i am considering the bd35 , i was told that the quality difference is worlds apart, if this correct it would have to sound and look brilliant, also does the bd35 definately decode hd-master audio ? if i do get one though i will be struggling to fit in my rack and ive used all my sockets up ! its never ending but i love it !

A couple of deals on the BD35 on E-Bay - have a look.

Bullitt - The BD35 will decode EVERYTHING - that's the beauty of it.

Scotsgirl - I have my settings on another thread tiltled 'HD Sound Blunder'....follow that.

But is the bd35 worth getting considering i have a ps3, is the quality difference worth the extra dosh ?

i was thinking the same thing is the picture quality that much better. also is say the quality of the pioneers (51fd, lx71, lx08), which are more expensive than the panasonics better and worth the exttra money for picture quality difference.

are the new pansonics goin to be better than the 35 and 55 and are they going to be worth waiting for.

Bullitt - in my opinion, the picture quality of the BD35 beats the PS3 (which is similar to the BDS350).

A stand alone unit will always beat an integrated unit, hi-fi or home cinema. However, the PS3 has multiple talents, i.e., an excellent games console too, so if you're really into your gaming, then keep the PS3.

Jonny1_2005 - My Pioneer 51FD is currently on E-Bay. I am keeping the cheaper player of the two, the BD35. I hope that explains it.

I have no intentions of getting rid of ps3, the fact its a blu-ray player is a bonus, but im always looking to improve my set up as ive just bought the pana pz81, so want to get the best possible pic.
thanks valiant.

I have decided to get the BD35 as the BD60 seems to have a lot of 'bells and whistles' which I wouldn't use.

Is the BD35 easy to set up?
