Firmware 1.3 released 9/2 for those who do not have players connected to I'net all the time.

Updates relates to "Stability of decoding for HD audio, etc."

Hi Kena, Do these really make a difference? As I have not updated my Player or TV since purchase and they work fine. I've had no problem with the latest releases on BD - Planet Earth and Batman Begins/Dark Knight. If it is essential then I will visit my local Panny Shop.

Regards.

Hi Shado,

Well they must do something or they wouldn't release them but often they are fixing things that you may not notice or features you don't use. So it definately could be said "if it ain't broke don't fix it." I come from IT background so well used to firmware updates /patches etc.

Updating really is very easy you either connect Player to Internet via ethernet port on rear and allow it to update automatically (If it's set to Auto-Update) or as I do download the compressed file from the Internet , extract it copy to a CD-R, insert into player watch display change over several mins then upload disk with FINISH on the display Job done. Usual caveat don't press any button or turn off power when update in progress.

Cheers

Ken

Wonder if you could do it with the SD cardl By the way where do you get the firmware update Pannys product site.

Might seem a dumb question to some......but, how do you connect this BD Player to the internet to get the firmware releases? Is it just an ethernet to BT lead tfrom the palyer to the phone line, do you need a broadband filter?

professorhat:
Hi Rock Man - you need a broadband connection with a broadband router - you can't just hook the player to the phone line I'm afraid.

Got both of these, so do i just hook up the player to the back of the router?

Yes. I'm going to be doing it in a couple of days, can't wait, ha.

It said on the download page check the existing firmware on your player mines (1.7) if it is below the figure on the download page(2.2) proceed. Now when i went to school 1.7 is below 2.2. Any way did all the download burnt to CD-R disc put it in the player came up on the menu No Support, which means according to the last item on the firmware installation page my player does not need it

Hi,

After much research I think I am going to buy my first flatscreen TV. I am more inclined to get a plasma rather than a LCD and thus going for Panasonic TH-42PZ800B or TH-42PZ81B whichever I find cheaper (am I right that plasma is superior?). I was also thinking about getting the Panasonic home cinema SC-BT100 but after I read this thread I am no longer convinced I am doing the right thing. It seems that the DMP-BD35 (the only Blue-Ray player listed on Panasonic website) is far superior. However this is a player only and does not come with all the speakers as the SC-BT100 does. If buy the speaker separately from Panasonic, they only have the SB-TP1000, which is extremely expensive. I never had a home cinema before with all the speakers it needs (I still have an old fashioned normal TV). This is where I get lost!!! If I buy the Panasonic TH-42PZ800B or TH-42PZ81B and the DMP-BD35 player, what should I get in terms of speakers that do not blow my budget (total of £2000 for all)??

One separate question, I am very much into photography and want to connect my laptop to the TV. Is plasma really fantastic for this as well?

Many thanks in advance.

I think LCD over Plasma is up for debate - each to their own....

Hilly10,

Did you download firmware for correct region? trying to load a incorrect region firmware can also get that error. Notice from Sig you have BD30 so am assuming you want the Feb 3 release if your in Europe/UK/CIS not to be confused with Feb 9 release for North America and you then select specific region before downloading. also ensure which you obviously did or you wouldn't have got the error that the frm file is not in a folder on the CD. That's all I can think off.

Defo downloaded Europe version. Burnt the file to CDR checked the file size to make sure nothing is missing. I will try again tomorrow
