optical cables don't have the capacity to carry full HD soundtracks, only HDMI does.

you'll be able to listen to the dolby digital (and DTS, assuming your system decodes that too) only.

Worth noting though that, on DTS tracks, with Blu-Rays you'll get the full 1.5 Mbps potential standard DTS offers rather than the standard 754 Kbps that most DVD DTS tracks have. So there could be some improvement on some discs.

Always nice to know until you get the upgraded system I think

thanks thats good to know,

could i send the audio over hdmi to my tv to get true hd etc as my speakers aint to bad on my pioneer?
