Why for "safety reasons"? Are they concerned some heavies are going to come round and enforce (with knuckledusters) someone else's rights to the brand?

Given that this is in Italy, maybe it's not far from the mark

Not the first time, won't be the last. Chord cables had similar problems with Chord Solstice - their flagship cable. A Scottish company (unrelated) said it infringed copyright. And now We have Chord .... ooh I forget.
