Hi, ive just found online the OnkyoTX-NR1009 for £998, which i think is a bargain considering its £1300 every where else and i was going to pay £990 for the 809 model, from a company named Smart Automations. I was just wondering has anyone had dealings with this company in the past, good or bad. Any comments would be appreciated.

... though I can't find Smart Automations on Onkyo's authorised dealer list (mind you, said list doesn't seem to be working very well at mo)

...Although unless the company trades under another name, I don't see it on Onkyo's list of Authorised Internet Dealers.

not fatal, but if you put their postcode into google street view, they're trading out of a semi-detached house rather than a shop.

There was a company called Smart Automations Europe Limited - dissolved in 2009 (same address) and there is a currently registered company (which their google search throws up) called Home Automation Solutions Limited (again, same address).

Its pretty common for small internet buisnesses to use managed warehouses, so the registered buisness address (which is just where the post shows up) will be home as they wont own the warehouse.

Personally I would be cautious, because its very easy for small ltd companies to liquidate to absolve responsibility and reform under a different name.

Yeah, ive had a good look at there web site, which looks creditable. Smart Automations is the trading name of Home Automations solutions Ltd which is a registered company in England. They are also certified dealers and installers of RAKO, AMX, A-BUS. I usually wait for the What hifi review, but you dont look a gift horse in the mouth!! So ive gave them a bell, everything seem fine, so its going on the credit card for a bit of extra security.!!!!

also, the OP has been registered here since 2008, but only has 3 posts (including two on this thread). I have a suspicious mind, so apologies if you're entirely legitimate.

Just to say thanks to you all for your comments, your input was appreciated and has set me straight. Ive decided not to purchase through this company, bit of gusto before but reality bites, there trading out of a semi detatched house! And i dont think there returns policy, should i have had a problem be upto much if i did receive the item. Once again thanks, off to richer sounds now to see if they can match the price? Ha ha
