onkyos and PCM

Hi, can the onkyo 506/576/606 take bitstreamed PCM over optical inputs?

PCM (for example from a CD player) yes; Linear PCM from an HD audio source no.

so a connection from a toshiba ep30 to an onkyo would only work via the hdmi cable not via optical?.....could i connect my sagem PVR and my panasonic th37px80 to the onkyos via optical for audio (i know it wont be HD) ?

No, the connection from EP30 to the Onkyo via optical will deliver audio from CD or DVD-quality sound. And yes you can connect your PVR and TV to the Onkyo via optical or electrical digital.

think i am getting it now, the optical will work from the palyer to the onkyo but not for the HD audio formats such as True HD/DTS Master ....... they will only work over HDMI.

Yes, and only as LPCM.
