I had my mind set on the 606 but as it only has a sub pre-out I dont think it will serve my needs, so after looking on the Onkyo website found the 705 which is better for me, but I cant fing any reviews here or in the mag and wondered why. In the meantime, has anyone got one or does anyone have any experience or knowledge they could share with me, I imagine that being an Onkyo it will be fine, although it would be great to know for sure before I spend my money.

Thanks in advance.

Big Chris:What do you mean by "it only has a sub pre-out"?

What do you want it to do that it won't?

Pretty sure he needs front left and right pre outs - the same reason I have to immediately overlook the 605 and 606.

I got one about a month ago, i went for a 605 but they had none left only a 705.The only thing in my system, music was poor until i bi-amped my front speakers thru the onkyo.

Your spot on, I want to use my Epos ES22 hifi speakers as my AV fronts.

In reply to Big Chris's question, the Onkyo 606 has a single pre-out, and that is for a powered sub and as such dosn't meet my needs.

Steve, how do you find the sound from your 705? Does anyone from the What hifi team have any info they can share with me, or, failing that, recommend an Amp or Receiver upto around the £600 mark.

The av sound is very good as i said my cd music was poor (with rs6) when first used (bi amped them) but now is good,i had a little scare last night when the onkyo kept switching it self off, but this morning it seemed to have recovered.

Not really there is something called a dts bomb, i don't know if it was that or just a mains spike. Switching it off for a while and/or a reset it is now back to normal.

From what I understand, in order to rid yourself of the 'DTS Bomb', you need a firmware update, I'm guessing that you are already aware of this but thought it might be worth a mention just in case. Glad it all seems okay now, must have been a bit worrying!

For my part, I have decided to go for the 705 so just looking for the best deal I can find.

Maybe Richer Sounds or Creative Audio could offer an attractive price?

im also interested why there is no whathifi review of the 705 and why richer sounds doesnt keep it?

There's no great conspiracy behind it - it's just that we have so much equipment to cram into the magazine every month, we just never got round to it!

We try to review everything we can, but inevitably we sometimes won't get round to testing the whole of a range during its lifetime.
