In your online review, you say "It also offers upscaling to 576p and Faroudja deinterlacing on its HDMI and component connections". Can you explain what this means please and how I can 'tap' into this feature? Also, in the product manual, why does it say banana plugs cannot be used in Europe - seems slightly bizarre?!

Online review?

The banana thing is a safety thing, as the plugs can fit neatly into the mains sockets in some European countries, with potentially dangerous results. But you can use 4mm banana plugs with the Onkyos - you just have to o pull out little blanking stoppers in the end of the speaker terminals.

And the deinterlacing thing? See that online manual p47.

Thanks very much for the advice. I did set the amp up as it says in the manual for upconversion. I still don't quite understand what the "de-interlacing" does though. The 'review' I was referring to is not a review at all but an old(ish) news item on the website. Sorry about that. It says "It also offers upscaling to 576p" - of what benefit is this? Does it mean that very low res broadcasts etc. are upscaled to the highest possible SD quality??

It will deinterlace the usual broadcast TV picture into progressive scan, giving better resolution and less flicker. It should have said 'upconvert' not 'upscale' - mea culpa.
