Hi,I`m thinking of trying to get one of the new Onkyo receivers(the 605-£400)but need to know if it`s any good with music.I watch lots of films but music is important to me too.I currently use an Arcam Alpha 9 amp with a Marantz cd63 mk2ki sig cd player and love the sound, warm but with the grunt when needed, how would the Onkyo compare to this?

Go for the Onkyo 705, that have preouts for all speakers, hook up your Alpha 9 to the front preouts of the Onkyo, and your Arcam will drive the front speakers as a power amp, and the rest will be driven by the Onkyo.

That way you assure you have good music, because the Arcam ist better than the Onkyo to music, and you will be able to process movies through the Onkyo

Be careful about gain matching or it could sound horrible.

I would buy an Arcam AV if I were you.
