Was just about to buy a used Marantz CD52 MkII today as recommended by some of you guys but have found two other CDP's of interest.

Onkyo DX2700R1 and Yamaha CDX510. I think I'm going to go for the Onkyo but would be interested to hear your comments on these players first and whether they are better than the Marantz.

My set up is an Arcam Alpha 5 amp and Mission 70 speakers, listening to a wide range of music types but mainly rock.

Cheers.

Couldn't tell you of either, but I used to have the near same setup in the early 1990s and it was excellent - Mission 751s instead of the 70s. Very good, easy to listen to (without being "easy listening") and good body to the sound. Would like to hear it again to see what my opinions of it are today.

That's not to say that the Onkyo or Yamaha wouldn't do a better job; far from it, but the CD52 was excellent in its day. If the transport is in good nick, add a Musical Fidelity V-DAC, or similar, for a really solid partnership (same applies to the other two of course).

just a bit concerned about reliability/parts availabilty for the Marantz which is why I was leaning towards one of the other two.

Decisions decisions.

Well, there is that. It's getting on for nearly 20 years old now, then again, you could pick one up for £30 or less I suspect, so you could almost afford to try one out. If it works, great, if it lasts six months, you haven't lost a lot.
