Onkyo DV-SP 406 Multi-region hack?

Hi,

I've just bought the ONKYO DV-SP 406 but it won't play some of my Region 1 DVD's.

The box is marked 'multi-region' and the retailer confirmed it was at point of sale...
Does this player have a problem with some Region 1 Discs?

On the off-chance that the box was mislabeled does any know of a 'hack' for this player?
