I have an Onkyo 875 connected to my Sony 360 blu-ray and Toshiba HD DVD player. Until recently, when playing tracks with DTS MA, DD+ etc. the Onkyo's display would show the sound format playing. However, all it reads now is "multichannel" (even though plain DTS / DD tracks are displayed as DTS Dolby Digital).

I have selected the correct audio from the blu-ray / Hd DVD menus, set both players to the correct output but cannot get the correct display to come up on the Onkyo. My guess is I have (somewhere) pushed a button on the amp which has caused this?

Please help!

Many thanks!

The Onkyo will display PCM as multichannel. Have you checked the audio bitstream settings on your blu ray player?

is this with all discs or just some?

I was fuddled the other day with a Dolby EX message when i had selected the DD true HD track. But that was what it was.

is it the same from both players? if yes then i would put it down to a amp setting but it seems wrong.

Yes - it's the same for both players. And it appears to be on all discs too - which is odd because they are the same discs that used to display DTS MA etc. on the amp. I have set the players to bitsream. I cannot understand why it recognises DTS / DD as such, but not the newer "HD" formats.

There's a "listening mode" selector on the amp (under the flap) and on control - this hasn't been pressed to select "multichannel" listening mode, has it?

Ah yes, could be the "Audio Sel." button has been pressed on the remote, to choose multichannel PCM. Try pressing this to get back to 'HDMI'.

It may also be worth checking the listening mode presets, and ensuring they are set to the correct decode modes for each sound format, rather than just 'Last Valid'.

just been playing with the 805 and the only way i can get the multic channel is by pressing the All ST button on the remote. Back to DTS MA with the SURR button.

same remote and basically the same box of tricks.
