I am considering the Onkyo 875. I have read the reviews on the September issue of What HiFi, however I have a few questions regarding this receiver: 1) How does it handle low bit rate mp3 files (128 or 192 kbs compression)? Some receivers have circuitry to "restore" lost information. Is that true for this receiver? 2) How is this receiver paired with the new B&W 685 speaker package? are there any other options (both for receivers with the B&Ws or speakers for the 875) I know I have to listen to them my self, but I am trying to make a list of priorities and features I want before I go out for listening sessions... budget is max £2500 for 5.1 speakers and a receiver including cables Thanks,

AFAIK there's no specific circuitry of this kind in the Onkyo, but then haven't been too enamoured of other receivers attempts in this area.

Not sure - don't think the WHFSV crew have reviewed a complete 685 package yet, but based on their views of the individual speakers in the system, the package should be good.

Well, the October group test is out now, comparing the 875 with its price-competition. And other speaker packages? The likes of the Quad L-ite, B&W MT-30 and Tannoy Arena would be a good choice if you wanted a compact alternative.
