OK now reviews are done. I have £600 to spend on a Blu-ray, so Sony/Panny or Pioneer ?

The most important thing for me is that the Blu-ray plays both Blu-Ray discs and DVD's to their very best picture quality through my Infocus Projector which has a HDMI input.

So the Sony 550, Panny 55 or the Pioneer 71 ?

Cheers !

If you've £600 to spend, definitely go for the Pioneer. It will be an excellent source for you projector.

Hi Andy.

Thanks for that. I presume I can plug the analogue outputs into my existing Cambridge Audio 540R (version1) and get a good sound output whilst I await Cambridge Audio's 640R upgrade or new model (if it ever happens !)

cheers again.

Yup, that should be fine, but be aware that the BDP-LX71 does not (at the moment) internally decode DTS-HD Master Audio (it will handle all the other HD audio formats though).

However, Pioneer is promising a firmware upgrade in the future to fix this, although I don't have an exact date yet.

Cheers Andy.

that sounds my best option to get the Pioneer (upgrade the firmware when available) and enjoy the picture benefits for both Blu-ray and my collection of DVD's. You have now made up my mind which is a very slow process in my case ! 🙂
