as title suggests my RS-W12 subwoofer makes a very audible hum.

I rang Monitor audio today and they said they would replace the amplifier in the amp with that of the RX subwoofer (at this point i got happy) however at a cost of £275!

Now i really dont think its worth spending that much to get the sub fixed by monitor audio.

So i have 2 options repair the subwoofer at a local hifi store or electrician, not sure what the cost would be however.

Or i could sell the subwoofer as it is working perfectly bar the hum and then buy another subwoofer?

What is the most sensible route to go down in your opinion ?

If it works perfectly apart from hum the amplifier doesn't need replacing. Try a local repairer, it's probably a capacitor fault and repairable at a fraction of that price.

thanks for that trev i will see if any local repairman could take a look at this.

Does anyone think its worth replacing the sub with a new one?

To be clear, is the hum coming from the speaker cone itself, or is the hum mechanical vibration of the enclosure caused (probably) by the amplifier mains transformer?

If the hum is coming from the cone, does it go away if you remove the input leads from the sub?

Has the hum just started?

Or has it always been there - have you changed anything on your set up?

And, oh yes, what sub cable are you using?
