hi folks,
just wanted to say I have had the nexus 7 for a few days. I have to say I like it quite a bit, I have a Galaxy Nexus smartphone and the transition from using the phone to the tablet is seamless. I didnt think the bigger screen would make much difference but its a really nice form factor. I can fit it in the side pocket of my coat for going to work and its very comfortable to hold for reading and browsing the web. Its funny my 5 year old daughter keeps referring to it as my 'giant phone' She uses it for talking tom and watching youtube music videos.. Watching video is great on it. The screen quality while not up to the amoled screen in my phone is pretty decent and the viewing angle is great. Sound quality from the speaker is what you'd expect. Over headphones its noticably worse than my phone with my ie80's but with a bit of tweaking with the equaliser in poweramp have got it to sound pretty decent. The states get 25 dollars free credit with their nexus 7. There are forums out there explaining how you can get the same here. It involves using a vpn and tricking the tablet to thinking your in the states. I did it and got the 25 dollars applied to my account and also the free transformers movie but its a bit of hassle. Nice to have the free credit all the same.
Still the freedom with android is great, i rooted mine and using an OTG usb cable have been able to plug in usb memory sticks and i even plugged in my sansa clip plus yesterday at work and was able to copy an album from the nexus 7 to the sansa.. its really nice to be able to do that kind of thing!
One thing is flash isnt officially supported on the 7, but you can download it and use if you wish.. i think steve jobs had it right though, flash is just a power hog and battery drain on mobile devices.. the quicker its gone the better..
Looking forward to the whathifi review..
Cheers,
Mick
All in all a really nice introduction to tablets for me.. if apple dont introduce an ipad mini i think this could do quite well.. of course if they do, people will flock to the ipad alternative, especially if you have existing ios devices..
