Newbie turntable advice...

I am looking to buy a turntable with an amp (built in or not) and looking for advice on whats available. It will be bought as a present for someone with no particular expertise in this area however I would want it to be good quality. I do need a quality item, however I am on a budget. Please share any information on where would be the best place to buy and what brand/type of turntable and amp I should be looking at, cheapest options first. Thanks.

Welcome, Catherine. This site has lists of most of the models you are likely to be nterested in, and prices are easy to find at stores like Richer Sounds and Sevenoaks. You may have a specialist near where you live too.

You could try a Project turntable, and they start from £159 with cartridge. An amplifier from Denon, Yamaha or Marantz, from £199 would be a good partner. Speakers, which I realise you didn't mention from about £150 upwards, though old models can be had for £100 or less. Many places package systems so the speakers would in effect cost nothing.

Thank you, that gives me a better idea of costs etc. and I'll go and have a good look online for these items. Do you have any susggestions of any websites that have a good stock/prices?
