Hi All,

Had my TV for around 4 years now, pretty basic unit - Samsung UE39F5000AK - Has been great for me no real issues.

LG TV 32" Up in the bedroom is on the way out, nearly 8 years old so will be putting the samsung in the bedroom and looking for a new TV in the living room.

I can get hold of TV's from a nice friend of mine for a good price but just wanted some personal feedback.

I've been offered a Samsung UE43J5600 FULL HD SMART LED TV for £290 brand new.

Are there any other options out there that would beat this, does anybody have this tv or a similar model and what is the feedback?

Cheers,

Thanks for the response,

Really f*****g helpful

people are busy over the weekend. A gentle bump may have worked better.

As for the TV, not seen it personally but it's going to be a very similar panel design to the one you already have.

If they are still available I would look for a 48h6400, its a year older but a better tv. A couple of friends of mine have these TVs, stick it in movie picture mode and it's great value for money. Doubt you can find one for £300 though.

I know people are busy,

I was just feeling outrageous this morning and knew a comment like that would get a response ( To be honest i didn't even think people would answer and just attack me for the comment ).

But cheers for the feedback,

Was just confirming more for peace of mind, as you do!

I agree with Paul, the Samsung UE4864000 is an excellent set. £499 at Richer Sounds http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/samsung/ue48h6400/sams-ue48h6400. One of many glowing reviews here and remember, the stand swivels, which is a GOOD THING! http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/ue48h6400-201411133951.htm

Cheers for the input,

I might take a look at it at the weekend, to be honest for £290 I suppose i can't really say no to a TV that retails at £399 still! I'll probably get it while i can,

But the 48 you suggested might be an option going forward, and the price will no doubt come down by then

No, I don't think so. Samsung released the H6400 series in, I think, mid 2014, and I'm quite surprised that it is still available, in an age when most television ranges last for barely a year. I have also been hoping for the prices of both the 40 and 48 inch sizes to fall, but they have stayed the same for six months. I'm not sure that prices will fall any further before the models are withdrawn, which I expect o happen at any moment now. But I could be wrong! *acute*

The prices of mainstream brand 1080p sets are unlikely to fall much further, and 1080p sets will soon be phased out in favour of 4K sets - they already are here in the US. Whether punters in the UK want, or need, 4K sets is a different matter.

What you may see in the UK, as we're seeing here in the US, is a bunch of brands you've never heard of appearing with older-spec, left-over 1080p panels at bargain basement prices. Once the panels they use run out, the brand names change, and good luck getting any warranty service.

PS I was in Maomart getting a USB stick and some smokes at lunchtime and I saw such never-heard-of-them brand 32-inch 1080p sets at US$160 each - that's a hundred quid for a 32-inch television - I can remember paying four times or more than that for a 32-inch widescreen CRT back in the mid 90s!
