So my Panasonic plasma blew, had it repaired and it blew again within 10 minutes of being on. Had to wait for a long time due to parts, so I want to buy a new TV a put this elsewhere.

I can spend up to £1000. I'm looking to buy tomorrow, to take delivery Tuesday if possible. (I go away on Thursday but want to get some Far Cry 4 gaming in before I do!)

I'm honestly just looking for the best picture/gaming set. I'm not bothered about 3D, and I think I'm not bothered about 4k yet. Not sure if there's any point yet?

I've seen the Sony BraviaKDL KDL55W829 for around £900. Seems to get good reviews for both.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I would have said something like the £849 UE55H6400 at John Lewis. And the pictures on the H6400 series get universal praise in professional reviews and also informally - read the five reviews on this particular machine from the John Lewis link. What I don't know, because I don't game, is what its (or indeed, that of any other television's) gaming performance is like, which is an important criterion for you.

I'd point you in the direction of this unless you're determined to buy a 55in:

It's a cracking set, and now available for around £550.

We gave the Sony 55in you mention 4 stars:

The bigger (55in) Samsungs might not be a bad shout either, although we haven't tested those specific models.

One piece of advice: there are bound to be some fantastic deals on Black Friday (Nov 28th), so if you can wait a little longer you might get yourself a better deal: http://www.whathifi.com/news/black-friday-2014-4k-tvs-and-soundbars-to-dominate-deals
