I currently have the kef 1005' speaker package and was thinking of getting some kef 1Q5SE'S for the front and a 1Q2 or 1Q6 centre speaker but still keep the 1005's for the rear until i can afford some 1Q3's for the rears.Any advice welcome.
This is a natural upgrade path for anybody with 1005/2005/3005 packages.
With the prices of the KEF iQ series at the moment, you've picked the perfect time to upgrade. iQ5SE's are selling cheaper than iQ3's, making them a bargain that no one after unobtrusive floorstanders should miss out on. This will improve 5.1 performance, but will make the world of difference for anybody who also uses their system for music. The matching centre is the iQ2c, which uses the same UniQ driver as the iQ5, and like the iQ5SE's is quite a small centre. The iQ6c is more suited to the iQ7 and 9 loudspeakers, but there's nothing to stop you mixing and matching, as the iQ6c will sound much fuller and more natural than its smaller brother.
If your amplifier is capable of 7.1, you could use the two front 1005 speakers to take advantage of this.
