New Monitor Audio RX6......dodgy?

Please forgive me for being pedantic, but the review mentions (more than once) the 'C' word. I usually gravitate to the words 'organic or rustic' but the 'clinical' phrase usually makes me shudder.

Not overly impressed with the looks, either.....

Rustic speakers? For example?

Anyway, I wouldn't describe the RX6s as clinical. More like an enthusiastic labrador. And they're entirely inoffensive to look at, at least with the grills on.

I associate clinical with cold - uncompromising.

If you go to a gig or to a club, how many say: "That music system sounded lovely and clinical."

I always thought the older RS series sounded a bit clinical with the metallic tweeter and cones.

Possibly, if poorly matched. Maybe, if i was to hear them I'd possibly eat large dollops of humble pie. Just certain words or phrases tends to give me the collywobbles

So you wouldn't want a surgeon to operate with clinical precision?

The five-star review (for those of you who haven't read it yet) also says "These speakers are an extremely inviting, engaging and entertaining listen".

If you're looking for some new floorstanders, they're a must-audition at this price-point, in our opinion.

Clinical to me suggests a precise sound, not neccessarily accurate to the original recording, but punchy and reproducable, like an AV system. To draw an analogy to football, a clinical finisher doesn't mean someone who is the most accurate, or someone who plays with flair, but someone who you expect to score every time, just does the job it was asked to.

On another note, I think they look really good, and added to this near universal praise I'm almost regretting my recent purchase of the BR2s...almost.

Odd that you should mention that - we've got an exclusive review of the Monitor Audio RX6 AV12 package in our next issue

Course, you want a surgeon to work in a clinical way.....

In the context of hi-fi or music - despite the overall review being interesting and informative - I still feel uncomfortable with the 'c' word.

It's nice to hear about the 5.1 set up, MA do really well in putting good stereo speakers into 5.1. It's a bit of a sweeping statement having only heard the Bronze and RS set ups, but I'm trusting the WHF reviews for the rest. Those little rears are nice, it'll be interesting to see what the rears are like with the RX, I'm not sure which I prefer, the use of bookshelves or the little FX ones.

And when I read the OP I was worried at what this 'c' word might be, maybe WHF had had a very passionate review.

To put it in a simple way, I think people who aren't too keen on Monitor Audio's established sound will probably like them, as they'll be easier on the ear, but those who like MA's previous presentations are going to find them a little uneventful, a little bit like comparing Spendor and B&W.

so FrankHarveyHiFi they are easier on the ear.but I hope they dont lack in detail.I must hear this RX series.

If a goalscorer was described as clinical it would be fair to say he was very good at his job.

ear:so FrankHarveyHiFi they are easier on the ear.but I hope they dont lack in detail.I must hear this RX series. They don't seem to lack any detail, everything is still there, just without the 'metallic edge' (which I like in a speaker) , which I suppose to some may seem as though they're less detailed.

All this new jargon I've picked up since I joined the forum like....PMC and good sounding.....and METALLIC EDGE. This means nothing to me. What does it mean in the grand scheme of things?

A rather crispier than 'normal', treble that comes with a slight metal twang?
