Got it for a bargain price on E-bay so was too good to pass on !

The chord one you speak off, is that the one that retails about 70 pound?

Right, if you take the stuff you are going to wire your speakers with and buy a wattgate and an MK Toughplug you can make a pretty decent mains cable or two yourself. Make sure that you only connect the tin foil shield to earth at the wattgate end only, otherwise you will induced a ground loop

Yeah i was thinking that before, how much is a wattgate going to set me back? (the wattgate is the only thing that stopped me before!)

Im a big believer in the benefits of upgrading power cords. But the results vary significantly depending on what equipment you have, the quality of your mains supply and the type of power cord you buy.

Ive had Nordost vishnu power cords before and was very impressed with their results.
Also, a very small company here in Dublin called Dalkey audio, makes and sell's high quality cables on that auction site. The cheapest being made of silver plated copper wire and the most expensive made of pure silver and includes a silver plated mk plug and wattgate 350 IEC.
These cables are well made and sound as good if not better than the Nordost cables.

The best cables ive found are Ps audio's premier sc. I have 2 of their 2meter cables which retailed for $1800 when released in 2006.
They are now discontinued and i picked them up for $280 each. The downside is they have US plugs on them so you either need to install a US socket in your house or buy a power filter with US sockets like i did.

All the power cables ive tried improve dynamics, detail and realism and bass quailty/quantity. The better the cable the more you get.
The Ps audio cables were the best and gave huge power to the bass and superb micro/macro dynamic ability and also actually made the system sound louder than before.

Any power cord will only really shine when you fit an audio grade fuse like a hifi tuning silver fuse or an isoclean one.

thanks ill read away...

What i was talking about was these. I use them on 12v mains links in panels, they are supposed to reduce noise and interference, might try some of them just before speaker terminal terminations on the regas.

Regaurding the new speaker wiring, i was wondering if i should earth the braid sheilding on the two speaker runs, to the housing of my amps, as they have an earthing point on the back.

Summat to play with i suppose..

Whats opinions on the mains hub..

igglebert:Good luck with your cable changes. All this talk of mains cables inspired me to order a Silver High Breed Accord 1m for £30. It's for the power amp so we'll see how it goes.

Don't bother with these Iggs, get yourself a Nordost on your CDP.

I've got a Chord on my CDP. I can't justify the cost of the Nordosts unfortunately. I'll mono block before I do that
