Hi , I am upgrading from a 7-8 year old pany 32"quintrex crt to the new Pany 42" PZ85 plasma.Currently on order. But im wondering if my current dvd player will be good enough. It's a Toshibe SD-330E, scart only and no upscaler. I also have a PS3 but havn't tried dvd's on it yet.

Is the ps3 a good enough dvd player or would a new dvd player with 1080p upscaling be what I need ? I was looking at samsung's HD870 as recomended in your best buys in the latest mag. But that only does 1080i upscaling. I also noticed the denon 1940 is now around £150 but in your review said the sound was worse than the old model.

I don't want to buy a new blueray player just yet as they are still quite expensive. I think in 6 -12 months they will be alot cheaper and improved quality.

I have a "reasonable"

amount of dvd's and would be looking for the best picture and sound for my money.

If I need to upgrade then I would have around £150 max to spend. So my question is do I need an upgrade and if so what would you recomend ?

Thanks for your help

P.S I've tried looking in the back of whathifi for idea's but theres no info on upscaling :(

Rest of system : denon 2105 , mission m33i m3c2i m3dsi ,toshiba 330e ,ps3,sky sd and jvc s-vhs video. Cables are chord carnival silver plus and qed interconnects/optical.

The PS3 is an excellent DVD Upscaler. It often makes a DVD look almost HD.

Agree. I'd stick with the Toshiba 330E and PS3 for now, and wait maybe a year or so for better, more affordable Blu-ray players to come along.
