Well done Denon, I hope they sound as good, and can we have an apt-x bluetooth model please?
eggontoast said:I don't disagree with the aesthetics of the Beats, lets face it that's what they are fashion accessories. I just don't understand why a respected Hi-Fi manufacturer would act like a bunch of sheep, they already have there own successful look
quadpatch said:If we're going to talk about Apple - nobody ever won by jumping on the bandwaggon either. This move from Denon feels like they don't have enough faith or confidence in their brand going in it's own direction so they chase someone elses because it works for them, it's weak. The main reason that I brought this up is that I think the designs are really bad but I am also not a fan of Apple controls either. My Vmoda came with 2 cables with mobile phone controls and both had horrific distortion connected to every piece of equipment that I had. Back to the design though, I will be curious of the sound quality but looks wise I think the D7000 is miles better.
Maybe so, but the ones pictured (AH-D7100) by the OP are the replacements for the AH-D7000, the flagship model not some urban ear fashion rubbish.Andrew Everard said:And of course those are just one model out of 30 or more:

Ah, I think we have come to the crunch.fr0g said:and nor do they look anything like "some urban ear fashion rubbish".
Very stylish if you ask me. Although way out of my league pricewise.

Sorry, I'm missing your point, it's still "urban ear fashion rubbish" no matter how many they sell.Andrew Everard said:Ah, you mean the stuff that sells in huge quantities and allows companies to afford to make the high-end models?
eggontoast said:I guess people who are spending that much on headphones don't expect a pair of Monster Beat clones.

Not always the case. Personally, I think they look OK and I'm flexible on looks. It's in the eye of the beholder as they say (not sure who they are though) and whilst some won't like them, others will. You would never catch me buying anything with wood/wood effect to wear on my ears.
I agree with fr0g that the only thing I dislike about the Beats is the awful (IMO) SQ.
For £1200 they shouldn't have any plastic on them.dalethorn said:So if the Denon pictured is expensive, the plastic had better look much better than the M50.
I know manufacturers need to make and sell ship loads of cheap stuff to enable them to make there proper stuff, that's a fundamental business model. But there is no business sense in making your top end, audiophile models look like someone else's cheap plastic trash is there.Andrew Everard said:eggontoast said:Sorry, I'm missing your point
Indeed.
This was my first thought - oh is that the expensive one, oh dear! I really can't tell. The Sennheiser HD800 doesn't have any wood on it but that screams high end when you look at it. This new Denon is really boring, not just boring actually I think it looks horrible. If I was paid to sit down all day and design headphones I would be a happy bunny and I would not be taking the brand in this direction.eggontoast said:I know manufacturers need to make and sell ship loads of cheap stuff to enable them to make there proper stuff, that's a fundamental business model.
