Anyone know if there's anything decent/recent on there? Their 'shop window' is more boarded-up than the dodgy book shop down the street. You can't even see what films and programmes they stream until you sign up. How am I supposed to know if i want to sign up if I can't see in advance what I'm signing up for?

While US customers get access to over 10,000 films and TV episodes for their $8 (currently worth £4.87), we get less than a third of that for £6.
Just to rub salt in the wound, some of the stuff they get that we don't were ours to start with, such as loads of classic Dr Whos.
I shouldn't be surprised. It's already normal over here to have new releases at our cinemas that are already on DVD and BD in the States.
And then they wonder why illegal downloading is so rife.
Not that that's linked to anything to do with Netflix, but it's all par for the course over here.

I signed up for a months free trial to watch House of Cards, it is excelent. Stuck around for a month or two but then canceled it. A buddy of mine has US Netflix on his PS3, I believe its as simple as diddling your DNS adress. US Netflix is far better.

No I bought a Western Digital TV Live because I was more interested in having a box which would stream from my NAS and play iPlayer on my old 32" Samsung TV in the bedroom. But it also has a Netflix app so I was just wondering whether it was worthwhile signing up. Answer appears to be no in the UK.

I got home last week to find that 'we' had 'accidentally' registered for the free trial and I am actually finding lots of stuff on there to watch. Granted it's not latest releases but there's enough on there to make it better value than four quid a pop for a Virgin rental.
I signed up for Netflix specifically to watch House of Cards and Breaking Bad (both excellent), but cancelled my subscription a month or two later as there wasn't much else I was interested in. But I'll definitely sign up again for House of Cards 2. And don't forget the latter will be available in 4K if that's of any interest to you.
I think I echo many of the sentiments on here. I signed up for Netflix for a couple of months, watched about two films and then cancelled.
I went off to LoveFilm to give that a bash, and it seemed to have a broader film choice (to me, at least) - but again, didn't hold me for more than two/three months.

Does the American re-make have anything to offer beyond just being American?
have a look at the Hola plugin for chrome - will allow you to get the us netflix in about 2 clicks and no techy knowledge needed 🙂

I had similar thoughts about the lack of content on Netflix, very poor and Lovefilm too.
The question is, where do people stream the latest movie releases from. Now Blockbusters has gone belly up I'm struggling to find a decent streaming service to replace it, I have an apple TV but the content is too expensive so what else is there.

My pal in New York is endlessly recommending films he's seen on Netflix, which we can't get here. To be fair, he can't get Lovefilm, which serves him right as he keeps making jokes about it sounding like a porn channel.
Not only is the content poor so is the quality.I too signed up wiyh netflix when blockbuster went under(mainly because it's on my bd player),they have films in HD and Super HD,what a mess it looks on a 50 inch TV . I would pay blu-ray rental prices for blu-ray quality but don't expect any other site to be any different.
