Ok.. will be moving house first week of Sept. and due to limited space on the house were moving to, (3.5 x4m)lounge. I don't think the focals are suitable for this size of the room. It's a shame that after a long period of time, money and effort to build this system which I find works best for me,I need to part with the speakers. Any suggestions?

Hold fire until you try them in there Iceman. Or do you mean unsuitable due to floor space.

Talk to me like I'm an alien cos I'm having a bad day in the confused dept.

Well first of all , as I said , try them. You could be surprised, they may well play the room ok. But if you aint happy with the outcome then this could be tricky because I know pretty much what your kit sounds like. For my sins ,lol, a few yrs ago I ran Focal BEs. ( 1026 i think ,honestly cant remember)

Maybe the 1008BE standmounts ?. , Another brand that goes well with your amps is Vienna Accs , well to my ears anyways , but tis a far different presentation. Or maybe Piegas Standmounts , not as laid back as Viennas.

Tough call. Try em first mate.

will do.. but it's not always easy to demo and start from scratch( sorry for my english). my local dealer here in Swansea does'nt stock speakers I do fancy and have very limited options, they're second to none though in terms of cus. service

Hi Mac.. Thanks for your reply and I do appreciate it. Just in case they won't work well in the new room, My budget depends on how much i wil get if I sell them and more or less add a bit to get some standmount:wall:

No worries.

In view of your amp and the Cno connection KEF springs to mind, but I wouldn't know which would be best for that size room... over to you Cno?

Audio Emotion are a very good Company to deal with and have no problems with home demoes and they have some great bargains in their ex dem/ used section, similarly Jordan Acoustics too.

This is what you are up against re the Focals as a trade in. There are boat loads out there on the s/h market, dealers find them a tad difficult to move on.

Bet they offered you half list max.

Not at all sure what your budget is or what you can audition (possibly better if you can get to Bristol) but I would not rule out Usher standmounts (I have heard them with Electrocompaniet gear and the newer Mini X Diamonds are supposed to be very good indeed).

Any ideas as to what your budget will be? Sometimes better to put the likes of the speakers you have on Ebay as you will generally get much more than trying to sell to a dealer or indeed use them as part-exchange.

Hi Ice,

More support for Floyd's suggestion: keep'em and see what happens. It might turn out fine.

If they get really uneven and boomy, being tossed in the corners and all, why not try some room correction stuff? You might not like the idea at first, but demoing some kit won't hurt.

First off, I personally only heard the Lyngdorf Millenium amp, with speakers I wasn't familiar with (Avantgarde Duo Grosso), in a room I didn't know (in the shop): it sounded excellent, but I cannot say what part the RoomPerfect module had in the whole picture... So that's worth next to nothing, but as I don't have an amp, speakers nor a room to put them in yet, it was the best I could do.

In a thread some months ago, I was given plenty of other options, in different price classes (DEQX, Antimode, KRK, Trinnov, ...). It might be worth exploring. In case, you're interested, here's the link to the thread.

And if you move on again, in a couple of years, and you have a bigger room, you won't regret having sold your Focals at too low a price. :)

I have some options but have'nt heard them yet..Dali Epicon2 , Dynaudio C1, KEF ref 201/2, B&w PM1s

Well, you've stolen my thunder there a bit with the 201/2s and Epicon 2s.......which would be my picks.

There is also a left of field choice - GamuT M'inenT M3

http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue55/gamut.htm

You might just get away with 203/2s, which are not that big and have boundary compensation.

These are all clean, neutral and detailed speakers which are also musical.......and shouldn't sound too warm after the Focals.

I would echo the thoughts of others.....Try your own speakers first.

Ok.. will be moving house first week of Sept. and due to limited space on the house were moving to, (3.5 x4m)lounge. I don't think the focals are suitable for this size of the room. Like the others I'd try your Focals first. I fear that if you downsize too much (price-wise), you won't get the best from your MF. Sorry but I'm just trying to be practical. However, I would audition these :-

MA PL100, Totem Model 1 signature, PMC Fact 8 or even Focal Electra 1008BE. I'd be very surprised if the Totems didn't impress.

Those Totems are small stand mounts that pack a punch. The PL 100 should also hit the mark. It'll boil down to your budget and whether you'll retain the MF 35 or not, I suppose.

TBF, I don't think any suggestions would match up to Iceman's current kit, apart from, perhaps, the Focal 1008BE.
PP.. I think were on the same boat due to speaker placement and limited space( typical poor brits).
