Hi - looking to upgrade speaker cable, using naim cable at mo but looking to upgrade to chord signature(price seems ridiculous so this is last resort) or any other speaker cable which will have the effect im after.Im looking for more clarity, greater precision on hearing instrutments and voices. What do you recommend ??????/

Change the system over to some AVI ADM 9.1s. Apparently a lot of people with Naim kit do.......

I'm not sure a speaker cable change will bring what you are after. I believe Naim recommend their own cable. Maybe a component or speaker change may bring the benefits you require....

Maybe alter the speaker placement...

only have smallish room, how much difference does speaker placement make. Was hoping not to change system as spent fortune but its still not right.

I think from your posting history you have the Nait XS and CD5X CD player with neat Motive 2 speakers. Is that right?

The first system in 30 years to persuade me to Naim was the Nait XS/CD5X with Rega RS1 bookshelf speakers - about a year ago - so I am suprised you are struggling with it. (Especially if you have Neat Motive 2 speakers. They are supposed to be excellent partners by all accounts.)

However, it seems that Naim is not for you. I hope at some point you heard this system before buying it (and did not just put it together on recommendation or as a result of a review.)

Did you consider, or listen to, smaller stand-mount speakers given you have a small room?

There is nothing wrong with the NACA5 cables and getting ever more expensive cables is not going to 'fix' anything.

Thanks for feed back fellas, had to laugh uptill 3am moving speakers round room.lol.System ive got at mo is naim cd5x, naim nac 152xs, nap155xs with neat motive 2 speakers.Cables are the standard naim with clearer audio silver line mains for cd, and copper line mains for nap 155xs.The sound is good but i want more thats why i wondered if more expensive speaker cable would give me what im looking for.Feed back earlerier was not sure if naim sound is for me??????.Think that is a very good point, friend has cryus system spent a fortune but sounds great only prob is im not a fan on the looks department.Listened extensively at show room to naim system which sounded good but its never the same as getting home and spending time with.I am pleased just wondered if i could get more out of the system with simple upgrades..

Stop piling on the upgrades. You are simply spending more and more money (and sleepless nights) trying to get to like something you should have known you loved before spending so much.

This lot should have gone back to the dealer within days for a refund (whether you believe in burn-in or not.)

If I were you I would call Naim first thing tomorrow and ask to speak to someone for advice on set-up etc. (Your gear is registered on their site - or should be by now - so just give them a serial number from your kit to identify yourself as a genuine customer.)

If they cannot recommend anything to fundamentally change this situation (or identify something you are doing wrong) then you really must admit defeat and negotiate a return of your system.

Don't ask the dealer or you might get some BS like.. "it will not perform without a seperate PSU" or similar. Yes it might sound a bit better with a seperate PSU, but it should still sound bloomin great without it.

It is not a crime (or a problem with you) if you simply don't like the sound. Naim is not for everyone no matter what it's more vociferous fans might tell you.

(You might just like to try putting all the original Naim interconnects, speaker cables and mains leads back instead of all the 'weird-gear' mains cables and try it again just the once. In my experience sticking to what came in the box has worked fine so far.)

[Edit] Another thought... Check you have selected the correct interconnect option for DIN only. Use the handset on the CD to select 'O' (DIN only) rather than 'O-oo' (DIN+RCA).

Have at least the amplifier plugged into it's own mains wall socket and not a multiway adaptor.

Chebby has a point. I like the XS/CD5x, so much so that it's on my shortlist. For once, I agree with every review I read. But ... and it's a big but, if upmost clarity, transparency or whatever you want to call it is top priority for you ... others do it better. Especially the AVI's messiah suggested though you have to compromise in other ways.

I don't know Neat products so can't comment but I used Mordaunt Shorts MS20i's with your system and everyone, including shop owner, was impressed. They have a super clear, very open sound. Although not in the AVI's league of clarity the Naim system nevertheless imaged fine without loosing drive or punch. I believe AndrewEverard once commented they where developed using Naim electronics but I may be wrong.

Thanks for all your feed back,i spoke with Naim and explained were i was with my system they advised me (as chebby suggested) to strip system back and start again. So last night was spent moving speakers, cables and general sorting system out. What i didnt know was on speaker cables, the arrow has to flow towards the speaker so naim plugs for me had to be plugged into speakers. Also selected interconnect option was not set correct....

So early days but the sound has really improved will have a good listen over weekend,i did speak to a dealer also who advised me to get a separate PSU................LOL.

Anyway thanks again guys will now hopefully be able to appreciate just how good my system is.
