Naim uniti

Has anyone got one of the new Naim Uniti and how does it sound?

I am considering purchasing one to enable me to have onboard DAC, Streaming, IPod connection and streaming facitilites. I currently have a cyrus system and was thinking about the Prevs Q DAC upgrade but the new NAIM does it all apparently. Not sure how much sonic performance i would lose though.

I had one demonstrated at Naimuniti 'event' by Jason Gould of Naim last week. (Using a pair of PMC GB1i speakers.)

It sounded superb (streaming 16bit 44.1khz lossless WAV from a NAS) and from the built-in CD player.

If it weren't for my current system (and the loss I would incur due to selling/part-exchange) then I would snap one up.

In your position though it is essential to try and get your dealer (hopefully a Naim and Cyrus dealer like my own) to loan you a naimuniti so you can compare. (Probably easier than lugging your system to them.)

Definitely hear one against your own kit. It's fabulous in its own right, but whether you would prefer it to the Cyrus kit is another matter - I'd epect them to sound quite different.

But yes, it would work well with the A5s, IMO.

Just listen to some of our podcasts and you'll hear that unanimous agreement isn't a given on the test team. Awards/test wins go with majority decision, but - as we regularly stress - there are often other four or five-star products that could work better for you/your system.

It's another reason why we highlight the importance of auditioning before you buy
