NAD T747 or Pioneer Elite VSX-23

I am looking to buy a receiver, had friends recommend both to me. Which one is better buy and why?

What is your budget? I am aware that the NAD T747 has reliabilty and compatibility issues, never heard of the Pioneer Elite though.
