Hi,

I'm looking for some problem solving advice.

I recently inherited a NAD 533 which I believe is in good working order. However, when connected through my Pro-Ject Phono Box E pre-amp, there is no amplification to the sound. I've tested the pre-amp with other sources and its working fine, so the issue must be compatibility or the turntable. Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the madhouse.... I mean forum.

Can we get a bit more info? You say you think the turntable (looks suspiciously like a Rega to me) is working fine.

You do not say what or how you are connecting the phono pre-amp to - what is you amplifier?

It is possible to connect turntable direct to amp then test by, very carefully, touching the stylus with your finger (suggest you turn the volume down a bit for this operation).

Can you check the turntable on someone elses system? This would eliminate the cartridge failure side of things.

Also does the turntable have the original Goldring Elektra cartridge fitted or something else? If the preamp works with other turntables then it would tend to point to a cartridge and / or tonearm cable failure. Try testing the TT on another system if you can.
