My Sky HD box is annoying

I have just made some upgrades to my system - Tacima mains conditioner, new leads and a new AV stand. I am very satisfied with the modest improvements all round. I used to have my sky hd box mounted vertically now it has its own horizontal shelf but it is making an annoying hum (fan ?). Has anyone any suggestions? I can't go back to having on its end, even though it was much quieter then.

Maybe try putting some foam pads, as feet, on the box.....may help?

i had the same issue - i tried foam pads etc and they helped a bit - but once you're aware of the noise it seems like all you can hear!!!

In the end i just got Sky to come out and replace the box

The engineer told me this is usually caused by the fan's mounting not being a perfect fit.

The fact that the hum wasnt there when the box was vertical would also suggest the fan 'rubbing' a bit when horizontal but not when vertical. (I found the same to be the case)

If your box is still under warranty, i'd get it replaced...

One thing to note - if you phone up Sky about this - they'll probably ask if the fan noise is louder than a laptop - make sure you say it is and that it's louder than your normal Tv viewing volume - if you dont they'll try you palm you off with the noise being normal fan noise...
