Inspired by another thread (that I cannot find to give credit to) I went to B&Q and bought four door stops, nice chrome ones. The other thread had used similar door stops to make legs for a shelf which became a free standing unit for a TV to sit on and space below to put a DVD. I glued the legs with araldite onto the base of one the granite place mats I had to make this.....

Thanks everyone. My other X-CANS has popped a valve and is living in the cupboard till I get round to sorting it. All I need to do then is get another set of legs and stick then on the bottom piece of granite and I will have a little tower. Each set of legs and granite place mat works out at £40. But you could make it £8 cheaper by just using three legs, as one leg in the middle at the back would have been enough. I went a bit OTT with the glue as well, so there will be a bit scraping to get off the over runs. I ended up over engineering it, if that is not to grand a term for such a simple project.

Now the controversial bit. There is no doubt that the X-CANV8P is better isolated as there is hardly any ringing noise when someone open and closes the cabinet drawers. But there is also an increased separation and ventilation between each bit of kit and I have the power and signal cables now totally spearate from each other. As a result the soundstage with the headphones has increased, more of the sound is outside my head and even sounds outside of the headphones.

Interesing you should say that! As my biggest gripe/the reason i have never got on with headphones is the sound being inside your head/headphones rather than being enveloped by the sound like you get with speakers.

So it's good to know you dont have to put up with/can get rid of that "in the head" soind.

It is the AKGs greatest strength, though the X-CANV8P plays its part as the modded X-CANS does not have the same same sound stage. Recorded footsteps can make me turn around as they do not just go from one headphone through your head to the other headphone. They can go from outside your head and usually behind you to the other side. Other sound effects can make me look up to see what is going on.

At the moment I am listening to a wall of sound, not much stereo separation Devin Townsend album. The bulk of the sound is contained within the the headphones, with the vocals and kick drum sounding inside my head. There are occasional other sound effects and they sound as if they are coming from outside the headphones again left and right. Gomez use loads of sound effects and some of their stuff sounds infront and behind you, that is very strange!

That looks sweet idc - good work!

As someone who has experimented with different footers, etc - I'm with you on the benefits, even on headphone systems the differences are there.
