hi all,

ok here`s my set up....

musical fidelity nu-vista 3d cd player

yaqin mc100b integrated amplifier

quad 12L2 standmount speakers

target R5 speaker stands

chord company anthem 2 interconnects

chord company oddessey 2 x 4 speaker cables (for bi-wiring)

this is an amazing system! amazing synergy!!!

it took a while getting there with all the tube rolling, but it was well worth it.

i did worry about the cd player maybe being out of the yaqins league but it`s like they were made for each other and tube rolling on the amplifier just helped fine tune it.

i haven`t actually finished the upgrading yet either. i will be upgrading the speaker cables to chord company epic cables and i will be upgrading the quads to the 21L2 floorstanding speakers.

this was my first venture into the tube world and probably my last so good is the sound. i`ll never go back to solid state again!

Hi there, and welcome.

I believe more people would end up with tubes, if they were only tried as part of the demo process.

When looking at speakers, you should also consider the Audio Note AZ 1 / AZ 2.....which are designed for tube amps.

I'm glad you're enjoying your very musical system

forgot to mention.....

the tube complement in the amplifier are......

shuguang black treasure kt88-z x 4

brimar cv1988/6sn7gty brown base black bottle x 2

rca vt231 grey bottle x 2

golden dragon e83cc/12ax7a x 2

the soundstage and imaging and bass have to be heard to be believed! i now understand the term "tube magic"!!!

the only upgrade i intend to make in the tube section will be black treasure kt88-z`s. i`ve heard that canada fuller kt88 retro tubes are a step up from the fantastic black treasures unless anyone knows any different

Audio Note sound fantastic and have different levels of system, that go from about £4k to over £500k. Don't be put off by the looks of some of their speakers (eg, AN/K, AN/J, AN/E), as they sound way better than they look.

going back to what you said about hifi shops giving demo`s of tube gear i have a sevenoaks hifi shop literally at the end of my road and i get on really well with the manager (i`ve been a good customer lol). i asked him about a year ago about tube amps but he had no real experience of them which was a shame. all he said was "they`re ok sounding" but i didn`t get much else out of him.

it didn`t put me off looking into them but i did take a gamble getting my system. i did do an awful lot of research though but i`d say i`m lucky finding a system that works so well together

Yes, this is why it tubes get overlooked. They are seldom in the big chains, and have to be sniffed out in the specialist dealers.

It's a catch 22 situation - they aren't widely stocked because there is little demand; and there is little demand because they're not widely available!

The more owners that come on here extolling their virtues, the better, as far as I'm concerned
