musical av amp

I'm after a musical (in stereo) av amp that must have the latest HD surround modes. Budget is approx £1000, but could stretch a little further if pushed. Arcam seem to be the best musically, but recently seem to have dropped below par in terms of technology and ease of set up. At the moment I'm thinking of the Onkyo 875, but am not sure what it's like in stereo. Does anyone have any experience of it? I'm using Monitor Audio RS6AV speakers.

As I have mentioned in past threads - do a search for 875 - it's an extremely musical amp in stereo too, and woiuld work well with the RS6AV.

Though the Arcam does pip it in true musical terms, as we say in the latest issue. But the Onkyo is clearly the better all-rounder
