Has anybody got any experience with the reissue label Music On Vinyl? They release on 180gm and claim all material is sourced from high quality analogue. Any thoughts?

Dunno but I would be interested to know if you go ahead and order.

Personally I try and source good original recordings rather than re-issues. This has served me well so far but my prefered genres are Jazz, blues and to a lesser extend, classical (on vinyl anyway). These are, I think, perhaps better looked after by their previous owners than say rock or r&b etc.

I have I think two or three 180g re-issues and they do sound good but then I have a lot of lighter vinyl that sounds good too (plus heavy weight older ones).

The source and care in cutting is probably more important. That and the vinyl mixture used on the day at the plant. There have been reported fluctuations.

regards

Yeah I have a fair few. I've been lucky and not had a puppy yet. Soundwise very good. But the way things are these days in the vinyl dept 'specialist label / 180 gm ' accounts for zip . Ye pays yer money etc :).

Indeed D. I've got quite a few Japanese albums pressed on shi*e house paper thickness vinyl. Probably some of my best sounding albums tbh.

I have purchased three MOV reissues the first one was through What Records and was a copy of the Mark Lanegan album Bubblegum. Unfortunately it was a poor pressing and had to be returned the issue being the sound quality, however the replacement and the other two purchases are excellent quality and well packaged.

Several days later.......

I actually , believe it or not Al , welded that cart on and gave the Hendrix slabs a spin today. Axis / Electric and Are you Experienced. Forgot I had 'Are You Experienced' on Movi so that was a bit of a bonus. Yeah all good ,nowt to gripe about tbh. Cant really do a comparison with my originals as they have more pin hole burns in em than yer average cheesecloth and sound pretty dire after gawd knows how many yrs of abuse , hence why I bought the Movis..

Know what you mean but I am lucky enough to still have playable versions of the original. Could probably do with a professional clean though as have not touched them for a while now. Do the MOV versions sound more lucid?? :)
PS Welded - now there's a thought. I might just have to start a new thread.

I may indeed have spoken too soon.

First duffer arrived this morning from Amazon. Natalie Merchant ' Motherland' had a curved smear / scratch on side one making tracks 1 to 3 unplayable.

Needless to say it has been returned.
