There is an ad in the back of a magazine I get, for multi region Blu-ray players. This is the first I have heard and wondered if anyone has had any experience with them.

The players are fitted with 'HD-MOD Multi Region ICOS', apparently!

The link is here http://www.mrmdvd.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_98&products_id=951

I've heard of two different mods for BD players. The first being a region-free mod or hack for the DVD playback and the other a specific hack for the BD functions although talk on the web is that this is a software hack that is at risk of being overwritten with new firmware updates.

I'm seriously interested in a Region-free BD player as I get to the US quite frequently and fancy picking up some bargains. So far I think my best solution is to get two different players to guarantee compatibility.

That'll take a lot of BDs to make up the price of 2 players ! From what I've seen on US BD prices they aren't that much cheaper than Amazon etc., are they ?

Hmm.... 2 players. That's quite an option. Interestingly Movietyme have some interesting deals on 120v Region A BD players.
For example:
Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player + 15 BD movies of your choice for £399.
Sony PS3 (40GB) + 10 Movies of your choice for £399.

You'll need a transformer for the UK, of course. Maplin have an ugly black box that'll do this for £25.
