I am looking at buying a second hand pair of Monitor Audio silver 8i they with be paird up with Audiolab 8000a and an 8000p amplifer and I use an Arcam CD73T cd player. What are you views on this set up will it sound ok. My musictaste is varied but mainly listen to progrissive rock Marillion and Muse etc and 80s music.

Good question: I've only heard the Audiolab integrated with my old RS6 and CD73T. Although they sounded really good; plenty of power and detail on tap, for my taste, however, they sounded a little too analytical. That's just my own take, but the pre/power version could be tasty.

The amps are fine, if the speakers don't cut it, then find another pair and keep the Audiolab stuff. You'd be hard pressed to improve on them for the money you'd need to lash out. Plenty of other brands out there and there's deals aplenty to go with them.
