Hi, due to budget constraints i may have to use a pair of tannoy R1s as front speakers with some even older kef coda 7s as rears...........to this i am going to add a tannoy center (to keep the fronts all one make) and an onkyo reciever (506/576 or 606 not sure which).........later on i need to add a sub, should i stick with tannoy or can i mix???? or should i forget the whole idea and go for somthink like the jamo £200 speaker set?

I don't think it matters what make the speakers are once you have mixed up your speakers. I would go for the Jamos. I have had them in the past and they really are good for cinema. For music no, that's why I changed mine. If you have a separate system for music or are not bothered with the music side of things, try the Jamos. For £180 or whatever they cost, it really is ridiculous value.

definatly no problems mixing speakers, sticking to one brand is just the best possible way but not necessarily miles better than mixing. Matching the centre speakers is a near perfect compromise. The sub is the least important item to match.

I would definatly stik with the speakers you have over the jamos, they will give you a lot more clout, scale and authority and will also be very good with stereo speakers (unlike the jamos). The speakers you have may be old but are still very decent.
