Hi,

I am looking to stream music and videos from my mac to my tv,can i do this via my current wireless router.

Thanks

For music, yes an @TV is the dog's, though there are other options, and it depends how much you want to spend.

Video, however, is another matter - what kind of things were you thinking of? Ripped DVDs for example?

ok all i wanted was the following

itunes videos and artwork.

things like bbci player.wanted to be able to use the apple remote so apple tv would seem to be the best option.

i am presuming i can get access to all my music, videos and podcasts?

You can't watch BBC iPlayer on an Apple TV, though can listen to the radio stations if you buy Airfoil and have it running on your main Mac to stream to the @TV (as opposed to playing it directly on the unit).

Other than that, yes you can get all your iTunes content, and can buy or rent movies (including HD) from the iTunes store - though the selection isn't marvellous, tbh.

ok interesting.

although i cant get some items, would still be worth purchasing i reckon.

I will try to source alternatives though.

The PS3 could be worth looking into. How are your music and movies stored on your Mac i.e. what format? If they're in a compatible format (like AAC or MP3 for music and MP4 for videos) you'll be able to stream them to the PS3 using a bit of software called MediaLink. The PS3 also comes with the BBC iPlayer.

Compatible PS3 video formats can be found here, while music formats here.

Don't forget that Apple TV's not limited to the original software. There's both free and commercial (inexpensive) software that will dramatically increase functionality.
